On November 14th Rethink Fabrics and Elena Bulatova Fine Arts presented Rethink Everything: The Art of Fashion & Sustainability to benefit the mission and vision of Rethink Worldwide, a non-profit organization focused on conserving the environment by ending single-use plastic. Produced by Rethink and 5am Global, the night was an evening of awareness and inspiration attended by national supporters, friends, colleagues, activists, media and the local community. As you walked in the gallery (located at Aria Resort & Casino's gallery row), you were greeted by the beautiful hostesses that explained the experiences that took place through the evening. First, once you purchased a mystery gift ticket for a drawing at the end of the night, guests took the tickets to the Rethink Fabrics station where they were able to choose a plastic water bottle from the Rethink ambassadors. They then opened the empty bottle, placed the ticket stub in the bottle and drop it in the beautifully designed Rethink recycling bin. Attendees then have the option to enjoy complimentary libations in the bar area while viewing the silent auction items and placing their bids. Shortly after, food was served on a tray while guests enjoyed the beautiful art throughout the gallery. They also had the opportunity to take photos on the red carpet, AND, find hidden artistic plastic bottles to exchange for a complimentary Rethink Fabrics t-shirt. The evening was full of conversations and awareness. Presentations and speeches were given by Elena Bulatova Fine Arts, Rethink Fabrics and Rethink Worldwide emceed by 5am Global. What is the problem: Plastics and their byproducts are littering our cities, oceans, and waterways, and contributing to health problems in humans and animals. Every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans. Today, single-use plastics account for 40 percent of the plastic produced every year. Many of these products, such as plastic bags and food wrappers, have a lifespan of mere minutes to hours, yet they may persist in the environment for hundreds of years. There may now be around 5.25 trillion macro and microplastic pieces floating in the open ocean. Plastics consistently make up 60 to 90% of all marine debris studied. Every year, about 8 million tons of plastic waste escapes into the oceans from coastal nations. That’s the equivalent of setting five garbage bags full of trash on every foot of coastline around the world.
